Sustainability
Sustainability has gained popularity in recent years with the help of social media. We can see the effects of that in fashion, product packaging, and in the world of interior design. You can expect to see designers incorporate sustainable materials and practices into their work, including eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient lighting, sustainable furniture choices, and water-saving fixtures. With an increasing focus on environmental consciousness, sustainable design practices are likely to continue gaining popularity.
Biophilic Design
Integrating nature into interior spaces has become a significant trend. Next year, we predict more designers will embrace natural elements, such as indoor plants, living walls, water features, natural light, and natural materials like wood and stone, into their interior design work.
Minimalism
Minimalistic designs, characterised by clean lines, clutter-free spaces, and a focus on functionality, have been popular for some time. This trend is likely to continue, with an emphasis on simplicity and a "less is more" approach. You can expect to see more minimalistic spaces in homes and businesses.
Smart Technology
With technological advancements, integrating smart home features into interior design is becoming increasingly popular. Smart lighting systems, automated window coverings, and voice-activated assistants are examples of how technology can be incorporated into the home.
Multifunctional Spaces
As living spaces become smaller, there is a growing need for multifunctional areas. Furniture and designs that maximise space utilisation, such as convertible or modular furniture, will likely remain in demand.
Comfort
Comfort will always be a top priority in interior design as we are designing for the user experience. In the following years to come, we look forward to seeing a rise where designers focus on creating spaces that are not only beautiful but also comfortable and inviting.
Honourable Mentions:
Bold Colours
While neutral and warm colour palettes, including earthy tones like terracotta, ochre, and sage green, have been prevalent in recent years, as these colours create a cosy and inviting atmosphere, we also expect to see an increase in bold colours. Think along the lines of bright yellows, blues, greens, and possibly oranges, along with statement wallpaper and patterned textiles.
Maximalist
Trends tend to swing from one end to the opposite end. Although minimalism will remain popular, we predict a rise in maximalism next year. Look out for bold prints, statement furniture, and eclectic decor.
